Research plays a vital role in the Northwest Association of Mothers of Twins Club. The purpose is to cooperate with and participate in research pertaining to multiple births. A completed Research form is used to collect information for statistical purposes and to locate specific type of multiples.

Research Forms From All Members

One of the purposes of NWAMOTC is to provide our membership with information on research studies and to make them aware of how to participate in upcoming research projects.

The research forms are maintained and collected by our . Our Research Chair keeps our membership updated on open Research Studies related to multiples, as well as the outcome findings. They also provide our membership and researchers (upon request and members permission) statistical information and/or contact information of our membership.

Please take a moment to print and fill out the NW Research Form and give it to your delegate to send in.

Research for Outside Organizations

Researchers from organizations outside of the NWA contact us from time to time looking for certain types or ages of multiples. We will advise you of their study and participation is strictly voluntary. No pertinent information will ever be given without your prior consent.

The Research form also has the potential to help connect our own members with concerns about medical and/or social issues. One of the interesting responsibilities of Research is to report on data collected and retrieved from the completed forms and publish findings in the TOG./p>

Please take time to fill out a Research form! You are an important member of the Northwest Association Family and your input is greatly needed!

"TWINS, TEST YOUR VISION" PROJECT

An online face memory test for all ages
Are you a fraternal or identical twin? If so, we would like to invite you and your twin to participate in our new online study of face memory. The study is short and fun and you'll get your scores right away so you can compare them to your twin's. Just visit http://www.sunyopt.edu/research/wilmer/twins.html. We encourage you to forward this information to other twins as well. If you'd like to learn more about face memory or face blindness,' visit http://www.faceblind.org. The "Twins, Test Your Vision" project is run by Dr. Jeremy Wilmer at the University of Pennsylvania.

MONELL TWINS RESEARCH CENTER

Why do you have a sweet tooth?
The goal of the Monell Twins Research Center is to discover the genetic contributions to individual differences in sensory traits and perceptions.
For example, when watching two people sit down to breakfast together, one may find most kids' cereals far too sweet to eat while the other may find the sweetness just right. This difference in sweetness perception may be learned, say from early childhood experiences or it may be inherited from genes passed along from one or both parents, or it may be a combination of the two.
By comparing sibling similarities for sugar taste perception among identical (monozygotic or MZ) and non-identical (dizygotic or DZ) twins, we can determine whether the trait, in this case sweetness ratings, is largely genetically determined or largely environmentally determined or a combination of both.

How can I participate?
There are two ways you can participate in our studies:
1. If you attend the Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg you can visit our research booths in the research tent and participate in any and all of our experiments. You can earn cash, receive gifts and win a prize.
2. We also maintain a twin database of names and addresses so that we can test you at home by mailing test kits to you, or if you are on the east coast of the United States, we can pay to bring you into the Monell Center and test you on the premises.

Who do we test?
We will test all twins of all racial, national, and ethnic background. We test identical twins and non-identical twins. We also test triplets and quadruplets. We are interested in male twins, female twins and brother-sister twins. We accept twins starting at age 14 and up to 100 years of age. We are especially in need of non-identical (DZ) twins!
